
Rapper LIL WAYNE paid tribute to his hometown at Sunday's (08Feb09) Grammy Awards with a festive performance inspired by his native New Orleans, Louisiana.The hip-hop star was joined on stage by soul singer Robin Thicke, fellow New Orleans native, R&B singer, Allen Toussaint, jazz musician Terence Blanchard, a group of dancers and small marching band as he rapped lyrics honouring the victims of hurricane Katrina, which devastated the city in 2005.
Rapping about where he grew up, Wayne took the mic and stated: "They try to tell me keep my eyes open/My whole city under water, some people still floatin'/And you wonder why black people still votin'/'Cause your president's still chokin'/To the football team and basketball team/All we got is me to represent New Orleans."
